Search Scott County Criminal Dockets

Start your Scott County criminal court docket search in Indiana's statewide public case system, then confirm anything unclear with the clerk or the court holding the official file. The docket itself is a dated record of charges, settings, motions, rulings, and outcomes. Indiana names the central event history a Chronological Case Summary, or CCS. Much of it is public. Sealed, confidential, expunged, or otherwise unavailable material stays out of view, though, so treat public access as broad but not complete.

Scott County Criminal Docket Searches

MyCase, Indiana Courts Case Search is the public starting point for Scott County criminal court dockets online. It pulls Odyssey case data for Scott Circuit Court and Scott Superior Court. A full cause number works best. Without one, search the defendant's last name. Add a first or middle name, and narrow results by Scott County, court, case type, status, or filing dates. Scott can also be a surname. Verify the county and court code on each result.

Remember that MyCase is not the official record. The court's own CCS and case file control. Results may omit old cases, protected material, or papers unavailable online. Older electronic events sometimes convert into the system out of sequence. Read the whole CCS instead of trusting a single line.

  1. Enter the full cause number when available, including the Scott court code.
  2. If needed, search by name and select Scott County or the likely court.
  3. Narrow a large result set by case type, status, or filing date.
  4. Confirm the court, filing date, status, and party role.
  5. Read through the latest setting and disposition, then ask the clerk for missing public items.

Scott Criminal Cause Number Clues

A Scott County criminal cause number tells you where the case lives. Scott Circuit Court uses code 72C01; Scott Superior Court uses 72D01. The criminal code can also signal the level or kind of matter. Under current Scott local rules, MR, felony F1 through F6, misdemeanor CM, infraction IF, miscellaneous criminal MC, expungement XP, post-conviction PC, and criminal red-flag RF matters go to Circuit, subject to recusal or special-judge exceptions.

The Scott Circuit and Superior Court local rules took effect January 1, 2026. A transferred or specially assigned case may sit elsewhere than a routing chart suggests. Treat the code on the current MyCase header as the working answer. Ask the clerk when the history shows a transfer.

Quick check: Match the court code, case type, filing date, and party role before relying on a same-name result.

Criminal Dockets: What They Show

A Scott County criminal CCS is a sequence of events, not a narrative report. It can identify the case, charges, public parties and counsel, settings, orders, plea events, sentencing, fees, and final disposition. Some lines are administrative events rather than documents. A document icon or title signals an attached item. An event without a link may still carry legal weight, and a missing icon does not mean a filing never existed.

Case headerCause number, Scott court, case type, filing date, status, and disposition date when shown.
ChargesCount, offense description, statute, level or class, and amendment details when public.
CCS eventDate, action text, filer or actor when public, and order or converted-event indicator.
SettingHearing type, date, time, judge, courtroom, result, and next setting when displayed.
OutcomePlea, dismissal, diversion, conviction, sentence, transfer, or other disposition.

Financial data may include costs, restitution, bond, or a balance indicator. It is not guaranteed current. Michelle Shelton, Scott County Clerk, is the practical source for a current balance and an official copy.

Scott Criminal CCS Versus Files

The public CCS and the full criminal case file are related but not the same. MyCase may provide nonconfidential orders and selected documents. Charging papers, exhibits, older filings, or other public material may require a Scott County Clerk request. The Indiana MyCase access table explains which document types are generally online. It also shows which need another route.

Once you have the cause number, the Scott County court case records route can reach the broader file.

Note: Preserve exact event wording because a setting, an order, and a filed document are different entries.

Criminal Case Stages on the Docket

A Scott County criminal docket often opens with a charge or initiating entry. Notice or summons activity and an initial setting follow. Later CCS lines may record counsel appearances, pleas, pretrial conferences, motions, rulings, and trial settings. The final phase can show dismissal, plea, trial result, sentencing, probation conditions, or another disposition. Not every case hits each stage. An amended charge can change the header.

Scott criminal docket flow: Charge filed › Initial hearing or arraignment › Pretrial settings › Plea or trial › Disposition › Sentencing.

Check the latest event, not just the first date. A continuance moves a setting, while a dismissal ends a charge or case as the order states. A setting is simply a scheduled court event. It is not a ruling. If a hearing is near, call the court, because MyCase does not promise a live Scott calendar refresh.

Reading Scott Criminal CCS Terms

Short labels keep a Scott County criminal court docket compact, but they can hide key differences. The Indiana Courts Glossary supplies statewide definitions. Scott local rules add routing context.

CCS
Chronological Case Summary, the sequential clerk-maintained history of events.
Disposition
The outcome, such as dismissal, plea, conviction, sentence, transfer, or diversion.
Converted event
An entry moved from an older system that may display differently.
Setting
A scheduled hearing or trial event, not a decision by itself.
Special judge
A judge assigned after recusal or another change procedure.

Final judgment matters for an appeal. Indiana guidance generally ties the ordinary thirty-day Notice of Appeal deadline to entry of final judgment on the CCS. Most Scott trial appeals go to the Court of Appeals of Indiana. The trial CCS itself remains with Scott County.

Scott County Criminal Docket Courts

Under the current allocation rule, Scott Circuit Court handles the listed criminal categories in Scott County. Scott Superior Court is no minor tribunal. It sits as a court of record with broad jurisdiction, though county rules assign those criminal cases to Circuit. And there is no separate Austin or Scottsburg city court in the current official directory or Odyssey list. So if you are chasing a city police citation or an ordinance question, route it by cause number and clerk rather than assuming a city docket exists.

One elected Scott County Clerk structure serves both courts. The counter sits at 1 East McClain Avenue, Suite 120, Scottsburg, Indiana 47170, and the published phone is 812-752-8420. Circuit operates from Suite 212 at 812-752-8430. Superior holds court in Suite 252 at 812-752-8424. No trip is required, either. Mail, county-published fax channels, and the Email the Clerk link all work for a criminal docket request.

Access Rules for Criminal Dockets

Indiana opens its court records to the public. Limits come from the Access to Court Records rules. Access to Court Records Rule 4 lays out the general right of access. ACR Rule 5 lists what stays out of view. Juvenile, mental-health, protection-order, sealed, and expunged material may be limited or missing from a Scott County criminal docket. Social Security numbers, account data, and similar protected details get redacted before release.

You can reach a criminal docket through MyCase. The clerk counter, mail, phone, fax, or Email the Clerk also work. State rules allow courthouse terminals too. Scott County does not publish its own terminal details. When a public item is not online, give the clerk the cause number, caption, court, the item you need, and a date range. If the item falls in an excluded category, ACR Rule 9 sets out a verified written request and notice process for seeking it.

Public access boundary: An empty result does not prove no case existed. The query may be wrong, the record old, or access restricted.

Indiana's Access to Public Records Act shapes public practice across state agencies, but court records answer to a different framework, the Access to Court Records rules. For anything official, rely on the court and clerk record itself rather than any copy or summary.

When Scott Criminal Records Vanish

A Scott County criminal court docket can go missing for simple reasons. The query may be too broad. The wrong court may be selected. A transfer may also change the cause number, or the system may hold an older converted event. MyCase caps broad results and can trigger CAPTCHA after use that looks like data mining. Official tips suggest a current browser and careful narrowing. Wildcards act as starts-with searches, not a general substring tool.

Try the cause number without optional hyphens or leading zeros. Then run a focused name and date search. Check both Scott court codes if the history hints at a transfer. If nothing public surfaces, contact the clerk. Silence does not mean a confidential protection-order history. It does not mean an expunged record either. The answer may simply be that no public record is available for that case lookup.

Note: Scott County posts no separate public criminal calendar. Confirm any near-term court date directly with the court.

Scott County Criminal Balance Checks

MyCase can show costs, restitution, bond, payment activity, or a balance indicator. This appears when public data exists. That screen helps you find an entry in the Scott County criminal docket. It is not guaranteed to show the current amount. A payment may still be processing, or a later order may change what is owed.

For the current balance on a cause number, call the Scott County Clerk at 812-752-8420. Probation and community-corrections records live outside the court docket. A CCS reference to probation does not turn MyCase into a complete supervision file. Questions about your representation belong with counsel, not with a public-record request.

Note: Give the clerk the cause number. Ask which office maintains the specific financial entry.
